Find an IELTS test centre
IELTS runs at thousands of authorised centres in over 140 countries. The official locator on ielts.org is the single source of truth for centres, dates, and formats — use the country selector below for local fees and booking context first.
Computer-delivered vs paper-based
Same test, same scoring. Computer-delivered centres offer more frequent sessions (often several per week), results in 1–5 days, and a typed Writing test; paper-based has wider geographic coverage and suits candidates who write faster by hand. One Skill Retake — retaking a single section — is offered at many computer-delivered centres.
How far ahead to book
2–4 weeks ahead is usually enough, but plan 6–8 weeks before peak windows: January and August–September university deadlines, and national visa seasons. Computer-delivered centres release new dates more often, so check them when paper dates are full.

Frequently asked questions
How do I check my IELTS result online?+
Use the official portal of the organisation you booked with: the IDP results page or the British Council Test Taker Portal. You'll need the passport or ID number you registered with, your candidate number, your date of birth, and your test date. Results are never released by phone or email, and no third-party site can show them.
How long do IELTS results take?+
Computer-delivered IELTS results are usually released within 1–5 days of the test (most arrive around day 3). Paper-based results are released 13 days after the test date. IELTS Online results typically arrive within 6–8 days. Your Test Report Form (TRF) is available digitally, with paper copies from your centre where offered.
Why can't I see my IELTS result yet?+
The most common reasons: the release window hasn't passed yet, you're checking the wrong provider's portal (IDP booking but British Council portal, or vice versa), or a detail doesn't exactly match your registration (ID number typo, wrong test date). Occasionally results are withheld briefly for routine quality checks — if the expected date has passed, contact your test centre directly.
How do I find an IELTS test centre near me?+
Use the official test centre locator on ielts.org, which lists every authorised centre worldwide with available dates and formats. Choose between paper-based and computer-delivered when booking — computer-delivered centres usually offer more frequent sessions and faster results.
How much does the IELTS exam cost?+
Fees are set per country and revised regularly — roughly ₹18,000 in India, around US$255–320 in the United States, £200–220 in the UK, CA$400–430 in Canada, and AU$445–470 in Australia. IELTS for UKVI usually costs slightly more than the standard test. Always confirm the current fee with your local centre before booking.
How far in advance should I book my IELTS test?+
In most cities 2–4 weeks ahead is enough, but book 6–8 weeks ahead before peak windows: January and August–September (university deadlines) and national visa seasons. Computer-delivered centres add dates more often, so they're the best fallback when paper dates are full.
