Legal Document
Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using Worddemy ("Platform", "Service", "we", "us", or "our"), an independently operated, AI-powered IELTS coaching and exam preparation web application. By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service in any manner, you ("User", "you") acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
For the purposes of these Terms, the following definitions apply:
You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Service. If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you are accessing from a jurisdiction with a higher age of consent (e.g., 16 in certain EU member states under GDPR), you must meet that requirement.
By accepting these Terms, you represent that you have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement. If you are using the Service on behalf of an institution, school, or organisation, you represent that you are authorised to bind that entity to these Terms.
The Service is available globally, subject to applicable local laws. We make no representation that the Service is appropriate or available in all locations. It is your responsibility to ensure that your use complies with all local laws and regulations.
During account creation, you are required to actively confirm that you have read and agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy by checking a mandatory consent checkbox before your account is created. This checkbox constitutes your legally binding agreement to these Terms. Accounts created via Google OAuth ("Continue with Google") are also subject to the same requirement — the consent checkbox must be checked before the Google authentication flow is initiated. We record the timestamp of your consent at the point of account creation in accordance with GDPR Article 7 and applicable data protection laws.
IMPORTANT: Worddemy is an AI-powered educational tool. All scores, band estimates, feedback, and evaluations generated by our AI are for educational and practice purposes only. They are not official IELTS scores and do not replicate or replace the official IELTS examination conducted by the British Council, IDP, or Cambridge Assessment English.
Our AI models are trained on extensive IELTS material and scoring rubrics; however, they are not infallible. AI-generated band scores may differ from official examiner scores. Worddemy does not guarantee that your AI practice score will correspond to your actual IELTS result.
All content — including AI feedback on writing tasks, speaking simulations, listening exercises, reading passages, and vocabulary tools — is provided for self-study and skill development purposes. Nothing on the Platform constitutes professional certification advice.
IELTS exam simulations on the Platform are approximations of the real exam format. Actual IELTS exam content, timing, question types, and marking criteria may differ. The simulations are designed to help you practise, not to certify your readiness.
The Speaking practice module streams your live microphone audio to our AI voice provider for a real-time examiner conversation and automatic transcription; the resulting transcript is then evaluated using AI. Raw audio is not stored by Worddemy. Accuracy depends on audio quality, accent, and background noise. AI evaluations of fluency, pronunciation, lexical resource, and grammatical range are estimates only.
Most content you encounter on the Platform — including reading passages, listening scripts, writing and speaking prompts, vocabulary definitions, synonyms and antonyms, quiz questions, grammar explanations, and Wordy AI chat responses — is generated by artificial intelligence rather than written or verified by a human editor. AI can make mistakes: it may occasionally produce content that is factually inaccurate, outdated, biased, or inconsistent, even when it appears confident and well-formatted. Use your own judgment before relying on any AI-generated content, and independently verify anything important (such as grammar rules, vocabulary usage, or factual claims) before using it in a real exam, academic, or professional context.
Features labelled “Beta”, “Preview”, or “Experimental” within the Platform are provided for early access and evaluation. They may be less stable than other parts of the Service, may change materially, and may be suspended or withdrawn at any time without notice. Beta features are provided “as is” to the maximum extent permitted by law; credits consumed by a beta feature that fails to deliver its output are refunded under the same rules as any other feature failure.
To access most features, you must create an account using a valid email address or supported third-party authentication (e.g., Google OAuth). You agree to provide accurate, complete, and current information and to keep it updated.
You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You must immediately notify us at of any suspected unauthorised access or security breach. We are not liable for losses resulting from unauthorised use of your account.
You may delete your account at any time via your account settings. Upon deletion, your personal data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data retention laws.
We reserve the right to suspend or permanently terminate your account without prior notice if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, attempt to abuse or circumvent the Service, or if required by law.
Worddemy offers a Free Tier with limited access to features, including a restricted number of practice sessions, vocabulary cards, and AI feedback uses per period. Free Tier limits may change at any time.
Premium plans ("Pro", "Premium", or other tiers we may introduce) unlock additional features. Subscription fees are billed in advance on a monthly or biannual (6-month) basis, as selected at checkout. All prices are inclusive or exclusive of applicable taxes as displayed.
All subscription payments and top-up credit purchases are processed by Gumroad, Inc. ("Gumroad"), our authorised third-party payment and subscription management provider. When you complete a purchase, you are transacting directly through Gumroad's platform. Gumroad collects and processes your payment details (including card number, billing address, and CVV) under their own terms. We receive only a subscription status confirmation, billing period, plan identifier, and licence key — we do not store your full card details on our servers. By subscribing, you agree to Gumroad's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy (available on Gumroad's website) in addition to these Terms.
You may cancel your subscription at any time by managing your subscription directly through Gumroad (via the link in your purchase receipt email or through "Manage on Gumroad" / "Cancel Subscription" in your Worddemy profile). For step-by-step instructions, see Gumroad's guide: How do I cancel my membership? Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you will retain access to paid features until then. No refunds are issued for unused time within a billing cycle beyond the partial-refund window described in Section 5.5, except where required by law.
We offer a 14-day partial refund window from your date of purchase. Since your subscription credits are allocated in full at the start of each billing period, refund requests within this window are calculated proportionally to your unused credits — not issued in full.
Refund formula
Refund = Amount Paid × (Unused Credits ÷ Total Plan Credits for the Period)
Example: If you purchased a plan with 150 credits and have 90 unused when you request a refund, you'd receive 60% of what you paid (90 ÷ 150 = 60%).
To cancel your membership at any time, follow Gumroad's guide: How do I cancel my membership? Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, and you'll keep full access until then if it not refunded.
Refunds are not available for renewals, top-up credit purchases once consumed, or requests made after the 14-day window, except where required by applicable consumer protection law. Refund requests may be made by contacting us at or directly through Gumroad's dispute and refund process. Full terms: https://app.worddemy.com/terms.
We may change subscription prices with at least 30 days' notice. Continued use after the new pricing takes effect constitutes acceptance.
You are responsible for all applicable taxes, duties, and levies on your purchases. Where required (e.g., VAT in the EU/UK, GST in Australia and Canada), applicable taxes will be added to your invoice.
Unused monthly plan credits expire at the end of each billing cycle and do not roll over. Top-up credits purchased separately never expire.
Each feature on the Platform consumes credits from your balance. The table below lists the credit cost per use. Wordy AI Chat is billed per message; all other features are billed per session.
Credit Costs per Activity
Top-up credits never expire. Monthly plan credits reset each billing cycle.
In addition to monthly plan credits, you may purchase top-up credit packs through Gumroad at any time. Top-up credits are added to your balance immediately upon Gumroad confirming payment and do not expire. Top-up credit purchases are final and non-refundable once credits have been applied to your account, except where required by applicable consumer protection law.
If a scheduled recurring payment processed by Gumroad fails (for example, due to an expired card, insufficient funds, or a bank refusal), Gumroad will attempt to notify you by email. If the payment is not resolved within Gumroad's retry period, your subscription may be cancelled by Gumroad and your access to paid features will be restricted to the Free Tier. Worddemy is not responsible for payment failures caused by Gumroad, your bank, or your payment method. To resolve a payment failure, update your payment details via the Gumroad customer portal link in your receipt email, or contact for assistance.
If your paid subscription lapses or is cancelled, your account will revert to the Free Tier at the end of your current billing period. Any remaining plan credits will be replaced with the Free Tier allocation (15 credits) at the point of downgrade. Top-up credits are not affected by a plan downgrade and remain available. Worddemy does not issue pro-rata refunds for the unused portion of a billing period following a voluntary cancellation.
Worddemy uses Gumroad as its exclusive payment and subscription management platform. The following terms apply specifically to Gumroad-processed transactions:
If you are a consumer in the EU, EEA, or UK, you have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal for online purchases. By purchasing a subscription or top-up credits, you expressly request that we begin supplying the digital service immediately — your plan credits are allocated and usable the moment your payment is confirmed — and you acknowledge that, once performance has begun with your express consent, your statutory withdrawal right is limited accordingly: where you withdraw within 14 days, you may be charged a proportionate amount for the service already supplied (measured by credits consumed). Our own 14-day partial refund policy in Section 5.5 is applied on the same proportional basis and is intended to meet or exceed this statutory minimum. Nothing in these Terms limits any consumer right that cannot be waived under applicable law.
You agree to use the Service only for lawful, personal, non-commercial educational purposes. You must not:
You retain ownership of all User Content you submit. By submitting content to the Service, you grant Worddemy a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable licence to use, store, process, display, and analyse your content solely for the purpose of providing and improving the Service.
We may use anonymised, de-identified User Content (such as essays or transcripts with all personal identifiers removed) to improve our AI models. You may opt out of this use in your account privacy settings. Opting out does not affect the quality of feedback you receive.
You are solely responsible for the content you submit. You represent that your content does not infringe any third-party intellectual property rights and does not violate any applicable law.
We reserve the right to remove any User Content that we reasonably determine violates these Terms or applicable law, without prior notice.
Conversations you have with the Wordy AI assistant ("Chat History") are saved to our database under your account. Chat History is stored for the following purposes:
Chat History is stored in our database (Supabase) and is associated with your account. Messages are not shared with third parties except as necessary to generate AI responses (Google Gemini API). You may delete individual chat sessions or your entire Chat History at any time from your account settings. Anonymised, de-identified chat data may be used to improve AI response quality in accordance with section 7.2 (AI Training). You may opt out of this use in your account privacy settings.
All content on the Platform — including but not limited to the software, AI models, practice questions, reading passages, vocabulary data, UI design, branding, logos, and feedback templates — is the exclusive property of Worddemy or its licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, patent, and other intellectual property laws worldwide.
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Service for your personal, non-commercial study purposes in accordance with these Terms.
You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works of, publicly display, or commercially exploit any part of the Service without our express written consent.
